Our client is a privately held food manufacturing company headquartered in the northeast and specializing in  sauces, salad dressings, and marinades. The Company’s commercial food manufacturing divisions produce products both for retail sale and food service, including contract manufacturing.  They have a new opportunity for a Quality Manager at their location in the Southeast.

SUMMARY

Responsible for managing the Quality Department, as well as for the plant’s Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance programs.  Responsible for ensuring compliance with Company, customer and government procedures.  Inspect and audit the operation in all phases of quality performance (raw materials, production, packaging, distribution, HACCP, GMP’s, etc.).
Must have a thorough knowledge and understanding of food manufacturing, processes and procedures.  Must have thorough knowledge and understanding of microbiology and raw material programs to assess and make appropriate decisions in a fast-paced environment.  Must demonstrate leadership skills for building a strong department, as well as supporting existing programs and creating new ones.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

• Guide the plant’s SQF certification program
• Carry out QC policies, procedures, and directives in the development of and compliance with Company, customer, and government expectations while providing feedback and necessary follow up to ensure proper corrective action
• Ensure that all QC Technicians, Team Leaders and plant personnel are properly trained with regard to quality programs, procedures, safety, and housekeeping.  Ensure that all equipment is calibrated and functioning
• Ensure the free flow of information between departments by identifying and troubleshooting problems in the production process
• Prepare necessary reports and provide regular feedback to keep management fully informed
• Maintain effective communications with Research & Development, Production, Maintenance, Sanitation, Warehousing, Corporate Headquarters, and federal/state agencies as needed
• Perform various duties under the specific direction of the Director of Operations
• Implement and maintain all food safety programs and policies
• Audit analytical data for out-of-spec issues
• Audit PDA paperwork (line audits)
• Review CCP paperwork
• Address product issues and improve efficiencies
• Ensure compliance with customer-specific requirements through monitoring of Quality data collection/batching/packaging phases
• Investigate customer complaints: paperwork/retains/analytical data
• Manage the pest-control program
• Conduct monthly, plant self-inspection program, including assigning corrective actions and follow-up

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years’ experience.  Supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
