Job Title: Senior Scientist – Natural Cheese

Our client is a leading marketer of a full line of dairy-based consumer, foodservice and food ingredient products across the United States. Their brand is recognized and valued by consumers and customers nationwide and internationally. They are seeking a Senior Scientist – Natural Cheese at their corporate office in the Midwest.

Position Purpose:

Individual will provide in-depth knowledge and experience in natural cheese.  This person will lead project teams and have responsibility for specific projects and objectives. He/she will also serve as a thought leader for one or more business units.

Position Responsibilities:

-Coordinate project activities, evaluate progress, and lead team members toward the achievement of tactical project/business objectives.  Conduct research utilizing experimental methodology.  Communicate results to management as appropriate.
-Originate protocepts and technical approaches to achieve tactical and strategic project/business objectives while adding to the technology base.  Understand the business and anticipate future needs.  Identify and assess emerging technologies in the area of natural cheese.  Develop technical research project plans.
-Continue to develop technical depth in the area of natural cheese.
-Actively mentor junior scientists and technologists.
-Approximately 25% travel.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience (Required):

-B.S. in Food Science or related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience with natural cheese in a production plant or R&D setting.
-Solid understanding of Food Science principles, in-depth technical knowledge of food formulations and processes, ingredient functionality; and the ability to develop flavor systems.  Knowledge of product/process/package interactions, manufacturing processes, finished product applications; food processing and a good understanding of experimental design principles are also required.
-Proactive leader who can achieve results through cross-functional teamwork with internal and external resources.  Strong planning and organization skills; ability to manage multiple, rapidly changing priorities; focused to achieve customer expectations.
-Excellent communication/interpersonal skills with technical/business partners/customers and the ability to achieve accelerated time tables while maintaining cooperative working relationships.  Proven technical, problem-solving ability.  Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Education and Experience (Preferred):

M.S. or PhD in Food Science or related field with more than 10 years of experience with natural cheese, preferably leading R&D projects or conducting experimental trials in production plant settings.
