Our client is a global manufacturer of organic food products. They seek a Senior Manager of R&D to innovate and develop health and wellness beverage products.

Position Overview:
Manage research and development for fast-paced national brand, including innovation, trend-tracking, product development, project management and strong partnership with operational team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Develop innovation pipeline of new products and line extensions that meet consumer-driven needs, deliver against brand-determined timelines and follow Company standards.
• Collect industry trends, understand competitive set and disseminate to the brand team, operations, regulatory, sales, senior management and others –be on the forefront of category innovation.
• Manage all product development timelines in partnership with operations in order to meet new product launch dates.
• Develop product formulas with an understanding of operational implementation, including manufacturing processes, quality and regulatory requirements, supply chain considerations, desired certifications (organic, kosher, non-GMO, etc) and food safety, SQF and HAACP requirements.
• Develop product formulas that meet pre-determined profitability targets.
• Lead consumer research projects to understand pipeline opportunities and likelihood of new products to succeed in market.
• Conduct and coordinate any plant trials necessary and manage testing required for the development of products.
• Partner with operations to drive initiatives to create efficiencies, lower costs of ingredients and eliminate supply outages.
• 20% travel required.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in food science, food process engineering or appropriate biological sciences and a culinary degree.
• 5+ years’ work-related experience in beverage product development.
• Firm understanding of flavor systems, flavor profiles, flavor types, and flavor applications, especially as they relate to various beverage products (i.e. juices, smoothies, coffees, teas, etc).
• Understand pH, acid and Brix with knowledge of food microbiology and food safety.
• Knowledge of food labeling and nutrition regulatory guidelines.
• HPP experience a plus.
• Capable of handling multiple projects in a limited time frame while being detail-oriented, reliable, and organized.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
