The Company remains rooted in the basic beliefs of quality, people, ethics, growth and independence established by its founder. They currently have an opportunity for a Manager of Quality Systems at their corporate office located in the Midwest.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, participation in the Quality Systems team to lead Company-wide quality initiatives to implement a strategy of superior customer service with products that meet customer specifications. This individual will also be one of the company’s Lead Auditors, whose key responsibilities will include:

• Lead audit teams during audits of pet food facilities and co-manufacturers and drive consistency across audit teams.
• Participate on a team whose function it is to standardize and improve implementation of Food Safety and Quality programs across all facilities.
• Identify areas of improvement and evaluate quality programs to ensure production of products, services and processes are consistent with established standards.
• Work with the Operations, R&D and Technical Services Groups to close all gaps in audits by identifying and recommending best practice approaches to problem solving.
• Oversee document management systems.
• Assist with Quality administrative activities as appropriate (e.g. mock recalls, product reviews, Quality alerts, etc.).

SELECTION CRITERIA
Education
• Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science, Engineering or related field is required (commensurate experience with a Bachelors degree in another area of focus will be considered).
Experience
•  A minimum of 5 years of Quality experience in an industrial food manufacturing environment is required.
• Prior auditing experience in a food manufacturing plant is required.
• Experience in pet food manufacturing is a plus.
Other
• A  solid understanding of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) is required.
• Solid working knowledge of quality assurance, food manufacturing, packaging, processing and distribution.
• Strong ability to work in cross-functional and team-oriented environment with multiple disciplines.
• Proven capabilities in leading multiple projects simultaneously.
• Self starter; take charge, positive and proactive attitude.
• Easily understands and follow directions
• Ability to lead several projects simultaneously.
• Detail and process oriented with strong problem resolution abilities.
• Ability to communicate clearly within the organization and externally.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Professional training and auditing experience of ISO Standards or GFSI Standards-based food manufacturing facilities is required.
• Ability to travel  roughly 40-50% of work schedule (some internationally) is required.
