They currently have a great opportunity for a Sr. Packaging Development Engineer at their corporate location in the Northeast.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Sr. Packaging Development Engineer develops and manages package design and engineering, innovation, productivity and quality projects based on priorities from the Product Category Team (PCT) and Innovation Strategy. This individual  plays a critical role in: developing effective new packaging, identifying key means of differentiating Company’s offerings through packaging that uniquely meets or exceeds consumer/customer needs, advancing packaging innovation and ensuring quality/cost of newly designed packaging meets the customer and business requirements.

In addition, the Sr. Packaging Development Engineer will:

Create and execute short-term and long-term packaging plan in support of PCT priorities and innovation strategies.

Drive and sustain processes to identify, initiate and prioritize value-added packaging / product solutions in 5-year roadmap for assigned PCT.

Identify, evaluate, propose and deliver innovative packaging solutions for assigned products that contribute to growth, reduce cost and/or improve quality, and keep the Company ahead of competition.

Work with and lead internal and external resources, suppliers, consultants, design firms, and/or engineering firms to evaluate and implement packaging solutions.

Assume a Subject Matter Expert role in one or more of the packaging technologies that crosses the Company’s business teams.

Document and effectively make available information regarding current technology, innovation opportunities and “Previously Evaluated Opportunities.”

Overall project mix is: 20% Innovation, 55% NPD, 10% Productivity, 10% Quality Improvement, 5% Cross Category support.

Direct priorities and initiatives covered by Packaging Engineer assigned to his/her categories (dotted line report).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

BS Degree (Mechanical, Chemical or Packaging Engineering) required.  Masters (technical and/or MBA) strongly preferred.

Minimum of 10 years’ Packaging experience some Consumer Product Goods experience preferred.

Ability to apply engineering principles and statistics to solve problems and make data-based decisions.

Ability to lead multiple projects in a cross-functional, high-pressure environment while delivering significant results.

Solid verbal and written communication and negotiation skills.

Solid working knowledge of packaging converting, mechanical packaging systems and packaging equipment processes for food manufacturing.

Experience with computer and information systems, including SAP PLM electronic specification and workflow processes, Microsoft Office programs, and TOPS or CAPE.

Expert working knowledge of flexible packaging, rigid resin packaging, dispensing technologies, liquid filling systems, as well as corrugated shipping containers.

Broad food packaging industry knowledge with respect to working within high volume manufacturing environments.
