JOB SUMMARY

Senior Packaging Scientist role is the primary driver of packaging innovations. This person works independently to develop, execute and prioritize multiple projects. We are looking for a seasoned innovation and entrepreneurial minded packaging professional.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Primary driver of packaging innovations
  • Helps develop five and longer term packaging innovation vision and priorities for the business unit
  • Requires deep knowledge, is a recognized expert, and has proven track record of commercializing packaging innovation
  • Passionate about the environment and our impact on it, and is continuously thinking of and its enabling technologies
  • Translate internal and external business imperatives into packaging related projects and can independently develop, manage and execute multiple projects and deliverables
  • Collaborate with material developers, packaging converters, brand owners, and stakeholders to demonstrate progress against strategic initiatives
  • Takes a leadership role in executing selected technologies and applications
  • Uses sophisticated analytical thought and in recommending amongst various options to leadership
  • Demonstrated expertise in evaluation, development, and qualification of multiple packaging technologies and packing processes
  • Expertise in evaluating and qualifying films, laminates, glass containers, bags, bag forming, filling, sealing, paper and paperboard, carton design, pallet pattern design and qualification
  • Expertise in packing line commissioning and qualification
  • Review and authorize packaging specifications for the business
  • Works well with others in developing and launching new products and packages
  • Considered “entrepreneurial” and overcomes challenges in a novel way that might stop other similarly situated individuals

SELECTION CRITERIA

Education

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required; a degree in Packaging Sciences is preferred

Experience

  • At least 7 years of experience in packaging development and innovation is required
  • Some sustainability experience is preferred

Other

  • Strong organizational, critical thinking, conflict and creativity skills
  • Effective presentation, verbal and written communication skills
  • Influence others, and to effectively “sell” his or her new ideas
  • Good listener, able to integrate feedback in developing feasible ideas
  • Ability to effectively work within specification processes
  • Ability to travel up to 20%
