Our client is a leading brand manufacturer of jams, fruit preparations, sweets and custard-based desserts worldwide. They specialize in fruit preparations for a variety of customers including yogurt, ice cream and bakery manufacturers. They currently have an opening for a Safety Supervisor at their location in Indiana.

The EHS Supervisor will facilitate and manage the facility’s environmental, health & safety program. The position will report directly to the EH&S Director, but will work closely with the Facility Director and the facility management team to train employees, maintain EHS records, monitor performance, investigate injuries, implement corrective actions, and represent the facility in the course of agency inspections or other interactions.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Comprehend and work with applicable state and federal regulations, corporate policies, and plant programs to drive compliance by assuring elements such as training, record keeping, and operations meet requirements.
  • Schedule, conduct and track EHS training on subjects such as storm water pollution prevention, slug prevention, lock out/tag out, BBP, emergency procedures, PPE, etc. As needed, develop EHS topics and provide training to address new conditions or injury trends at the facility.
  • Lead incident investigations of workplace injuries, casualty losses, or environmental events. Properly record and report on such incidents. Provide follow up 5-Why assessments, and drive corrective actions.
  • Maintain and publish monthly EHS reports of injury including the OSHA 300 log and property damage.
  • Maintain all EHS records in an “audit ready” condition, including the Safety Data Sheets Program.
  • Assist the facility in the procurement and stocking of safety supplies.
  • Support/lead behavioral safety programs such as employee observation and coaching, weekly safety meetings, monthly town halls, safety record celebration events, etc. Provide support and material for safety portion of shift huddles (tool box talks). Track safety actions (safety action list or existing maintenance log), drive completion, and implement program to assure sponsors that activities were completed.
  • Workers Compensation Management.

Formal Education Required:

  • Bachelors Degree in related field.

Specific Experience and Key Knowledge Requirements:

  • 3-8 years’ experience in EHS in a manufacturing setting.
  • Must have a working knowledge of OSHA 1910 regulations and general knowledge of environmental programs.
  • Must have the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects/initiatives simultaneously and work well with all levels of the organization.
  • Individual must be comfortable with public speaking since providing safety training in group settings is a primary responsibility.

Special Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Working knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.
  • Understanding and previous experience assisting with Workers Compensation a plus.
