Due to growing interest, UWRF may bring back food science major

UW-River Falls is considering bringing back the food science major that was dropped five years ago.

Despite recent budget cuts, faculty and students Department of Animal and Food Science would like to see the food science major back by fall 2016.

The demand for food science majors is on the rise across the U.S. Bringing the major back could be a huge advantage for the university, its students and the surrounding communities, according to Bonnie Walters, the UWRF food science professor.

IFT Adds Four New Schools to List of Approved Food Science Programs

Newswise — CHICAGO— The Institute of Food Technologist’s (IFT) Higher Education Review Board (HERB) recently added four new schools to their list of approved undergraduate food science programs, bringing the total list to 61 schools. The primary goal of the Education Standards is to enhance excellence in food science education. Approved schools are listed on IFT.org and is currently being updated with information on the four new programs.
